This pattern is for a sophisticated, short sleeve summer dress that can create a stunning look for both casual as well as special occasions. The dress can be worn multiple different ways - please refer to a short video below for more details! If you follow the instructions you will create a biodegradable, compostable garment, utilising 100% of your fabric. Yes! You will have no fabric scraps left after youāve completed this project!
A garment which is designed to utilise an entire piece of fabric is called zero waste fashion design ā pattern cutting is integrated into the design process. It is not really new and has been applied widely in historical garments (kimonos are a good example) more recently it has been reinvented and pioneered by a group of designers. These include Timo Rissanen, Holy McQuillan, Maya Stabel, Juian Roberts amongst others. With this pattern, I am offering you the opportunity of diving into the world of zero waste fashion at your home and joining the growing numbers of sewers who favour this innovative method of making clothes!

To create this dress I used light 100% spun silk from https://www.seaofsilks.com ā a company that specialises in sourcing natural sustainable fabrics which are ethically made. I eco printed and botanically dyed the fabric first. If you don't know how to do that you can order already printed and/or dyed fabric from this supplier! Contact them to discuss your options!
