WASTE IS A DESIGN FLAW. I believe that as creators we are the first ones who are responsible for what we create and what impact our creations will make to the world around us. Any hand craft, and especially sewing, creates some sort of waste and involves a lot of materials being used. In my opinion understanding how the choice of materials and the waste created after the process would live in our environment long after the process of creation is as important as learning sewing skills as such. In fact, it is a great part of learning the skills of any craft. At No Ordinary Crafts and Positive Sewing Classes (NO CraP Sewing Classes) I am determined to follow zero waste processes and responsible choice of materials I use at the classes.
I OFFER TWO TYPES OF COURSES FOR ADULTS:
- PROJECT BASED SHORT COURSES
These short courses are suitable for beginners to medium sewers and will take you on a long journey of learning how to create sustainably with our planet in mind. I will show you and teach you a whole lot of skills, techniques and crafts starting from basic hand and machine stitches, fabric knowledge and understanding and going through various useful and interesting crafts including but not limited to crocheting, knitting, clothes mending, lucet cord making, wool spinning, eco dyeing and more with each project adding one or more useful skill or technique to your collection!
Apart from teaching you the skills I know I will give you the knowledge of how to differentiate between different types of materials, show you what materials I use, how to reuse just about anything from your waste pile and the difference between using recycled vs 100% natural materials for various projects and situations. I am determined to NOT create fast cheap things that will just add more waste into the world. Therefore all my projects are designed with slow quality making in mind. Most projects would take quite a few weeks to accomplish. So if you are after some quick learning these classes might not be for you.
You would need to enrol for each project separately. Once the project is complete you are welcome to re enrol onto the next one or just leave. I will start a project once I have four students enrolled. YOU CAN FIND THE LIST OF PROJECTS THAT ARE CURRENTLY ON OFFER HERE.
- BASIC PATTERN MAKING COURSE (it will last roughly a year on once per week basis)
Apart from sewing and crafts skills course I offer a basic pattern making course mainly designed for late teens and adults that already have a good understanding of sewing techniques and are ready to try making their own clothes. The course includes understanding the body shape for clothes making, patternless clothes making, basics of zero waste pattern making and learning how to draft all your basic blocks to create your own patterns. It will be suitable for someone who wants to take their home sewing on the next level by starting to make their own patterns instead of depending on the ones that are available for sale. By the end of the course you will have all the main basic blocks created for your own shape and a basic understanding of how to modify them into the design you want. One class will last about an hour and you will have a home task to complete by the next class.

ENROLLMENTS ARE NOW OPEN AGAIN! I HAVE 4 SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR EACH GROUP. ONCE A GROUP IS FORMED I WILL PUT YOU ON THE WAITING LIST FOR THE NEXT ONE. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED PLEASE DROP ME A MESSAGE VIA CONTACT PAGE! ?
CREATIVITY IS CONTAGIOUS! LET’S CREATE RESPONSIBLY AND PASS IT ON!
COST: Recommended price is $25 per class per child. However, if you are going through financial hardship, but you are very interested in the classes, please contact me. I work with “PAY WHAT YOU CAN” approach and there will be options for you! “PAY WHAT YOU CAN” is a philosophy and a growing movement where the idea of particular price charged for an item or service is replaced with an option for a customer to choose how much one can afford and/or wants to pay depending on the income and satisfaction with the product or service.
I see it as a community work to create a better world together. I am truly passionate about that idea and I hope to inspire you to contribute or maybe even join the movement of creating a beautiful world we all know we want to live in. You can read more about this idea here:
DATE AND TIME: TO BE UPDATED
All the courses are held at my house in Harkaway, Melbourne VIC. If you want to enrol please drop me a message via my CONTACT page to receive your enrolment form!

Each lesson allowed us to explore our imagination from the creative point. Learning forgotten and grounding way to interact with mother Earth through textiles, having a little pick back in time and history.
It's not your usual sowing lessons, it's a small treasures in the chest.
