This pattern is for a beautiful, long sleeve shirt-like dress. If you follow the instructions you will create a biodegradable compostable garment utilising 99% of your fabric. Yes! You will have close to none fabric scraps left after you’ve completed this project!
This process is called zero waste fashion design – it integrates pattern cutting into the design process. Although it is not really new and has been applied widely in historical garments (kimonos are a good example) more recently it has been reinvented and pioneered by a group of designers. These include Timo Rissanen, Holy McQuillan, Maya Stabel, Juian Roberts amongst others. With this pattern, I am offering you the opportunity of diving into the world of zero waste fashion at your home and joining the growing numbers of sewers who favour this innovative method of making clothes!

FABRIC RECOMMENDATION:
Any light to medium weight 100% natural cotton, linen or hemp fabrics. You can use medium weight silks as well, just remember that silk is a harder fabric to work with. Choose it only if you feel confident. The aim of this project is to create a biodegradable garment, so my recommendation is to stick to natural fibres, but you are free to use any light to medium weight woven fabric.
